Job Summary:

The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing product strategies, including new product introductions, product lifecycle management, and profitability. This role will provide technical support to Operations, Quality, Marketing, Sales, and customers in the form of new product engineering and technical service, which entails various technical responsibilities concerning design, manufacturing, and implementation of custom products. The Product Development Engineer will act as the lead on various product development projects and have a proactive approach to ensuring the project is completed successfully within set timeframes. The goal is for all product development projects to achieve a first-time acceptance whenever possible. We are looking for someone with a competitive nature who will be proactive when thinking of new product areas to develop and have a clear vision of how they will get there.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, monitor, track, and maintain project milestones and deliverables
  • Identify new business opportunities and develop a growth strategy for new product initiatives
  • Implement trials with Technical Manager and Operations Manager and attend all trials
  • Collaborate with salesforce and market segment managers to support growth and/or product development initiatives
  • Create Mockups for customers as needed by Sales Team
  • Develop new test methods as needed to better predict and understand product performance
  • Validate performance of products at the customer use level. If necessary, attend product trials at customer locations
  • Engage vendors/suppliers at a high level and utilize in plant for new product support as needed
  • Determine appropriate materials, ink, coatings, or adhesives for new projects product specifications
  • Work with technical and QA team to gain an understanding of quality and regulatory requirements and resolve issues as they arise
  • Conduct analysis on the current business to identify how best to implement the business model
  • Support of product development projects, including gathering customer input and translating into product requirements.
  • Review and create final customer specifications
  • Research competitor's products to assess competition in the market
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills, Qualifications, And Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent subject area
  • Minimum of 5 years of product development, Package Engineering, or Technical Sales experience within the printing and labeling industry
  • Significant experience with technical aspects, properties, and uses of UV and Water Based Inks, UV or Water-based Varnishes, UV Coatings, UV Adhesives, and Releases Coatings
  • Must be familiar with pressure sensitive label substrates and adhesives
  • Strong Leadership and organizational skills to help drive results
  • Manage multiple projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving
  • Ability to synthesize data and other information into clear, actionable deliverables
  • Proficient Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PPT, Outlook, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with product, customer and/or competitor analytics
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various partners who may have contending interests
  • Validated project leadership and critical thinking skills; ability to handle time effectively on several simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to "think outside the box" and develop creative solutions

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of print production
  • Understanding of GMPs
  • Design for Six Sigma Certification
  • CAD Software experience (preferably AutoCAD)
